5 Reasons Why Christians Must Speak for the Unborn

Our ministry’s core mission is baked into our name: we believe that Christians must speak for the unborn. But why are we so fundamentally convinced of that truth?

Here are five reasons.

  1. Unborn babies are worth speaking for.

David says that unborn babies are “fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalm 139:14). Unborn babies are beautiful works of art who are made in God’s image, just like the rest of humanity. At the moment of conception, a brand new human person has been brought into the world by the power of God. Because we believe God does all things well, we believe that every unborn baby is worth speaking for.

King Lemuel’s mother knew exactly what it was like to carry an unborn child in her womb. She says in Proverbs 31:8-9, “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Let us not be found silent when the weak are being victimized.

  1. Christians are commanded to expose evil.

Paul says in Ephesians 5:11, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” The abortion industry delights in gaslighting, manipulation, and disinformation. Only by speaking for the unborn can Christians clearly expose the abortion industry’s horrific deeds.

In Planned Parenthood’s annual 2023 report, the organization boasted that an “estimated 325,000 unintended pregnancies [were] averted by Planned Parenthood services.” (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/facts-figures/annual-report)
This means that an estimated 325,000 human lives were ended at the hands of Planned Parenthood. That number doesn’t include the rest of the abortion industry or the abortion pill. Evil can only be stopped when it’s exposed for what it is.

  1. The Gospel is worth proclaiming to pro-choice individuals.

The Gospel is for every single person on earth, male and female, young and old. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:23-24)

If we as Christians truly believe that Jesus Christ came to save sinners, and that He loved us while we were His enemies, then we can’t help but proclaim that good news. It’s the best news of all time!

Pro-choice men and women need to hear that though they are sinners, there is a Savior ready to forgive them. They need to hear that the only way of salvation is by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Post-abortive individuals need to hear that they can be fully forgiven of their sin and be free from all condemnation. Abortion workers need to hear that they must flee from their wickedness and find freedom in Christ.

  1. Our Savior speaks for us.

If Jesus Christ is not ashamed to speak for us, we must not be ashamed to speak for the unborn. Consider what Christ has done for us:

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:6-11)

Jesus wasn’t ashamed to speak for us on earth, and He is not ashamed to speak for us before His heavenly Father. “For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”(Hebrews 2:11-12)

We have an advocate before the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. We have a mediator between us and God – the man Jesus Christ. Though the devil may accuse us, the world may slander us, and the flesh may hinder us, Jesus Christ is not ashamed to call us His own. May we not be ashamed to call Him our own, and may we never be ashamed to speak for the weakest ones among us.

  1. We are called to love our enemies as ourselves.

Jesus gives us the ultimate example of loving our enemies by dying for us on the cross, but He also commands us to follow in His footsteps. “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” (Luke 6:27-28)

The best way to love those who hate you is to graciously speak the truth. If you were stumbling toward a cliff, wouldn’t you want someone to warn you? Likewise, the most loving thing you can do is not to “tolerate” sin but to lovingly call sinners to the same fountain of grace you’ve found. If you love pro-choice individuals, ask the Lord to give you grace to speak the truth in love. If you lack love in your heart, ask the Lord to fill your heart with so much love for the lost that you can’t help but speak.

Unborn babies are worth speaking for, and Christians are commanded to expose evil. Because the Gospel is worth sharing with pro-choice individuals, Christians must follow Christ’s example and speak for the weak and love their enemies as themselves. A lost and dying world needs the grace that only Jesus can give – so let’s get out there and share the good news.
