Dr. Denny Burk writes:
If one is willing to deny the humanity of children conceived through violence, one cannot consistently defend the humanity of children conceived through consensual sex. To deny the humanity of the one is to deny the humanity of the other. That is why pro-lifers support the right to life of all unborn children. It’s not how children are conceived that makes them image-bearers. It’s that they are conceived that makes them members of the human community whose lives deserve to be protected in law.
Exactly.
Many American’s think that abortion is wrong in the third trimester because it kills a baby, but that it is permissible in the first trimester because it only eliminates a clump of cells. This video educates and defends the humanity of first-trimester fetuses…
As the video said, “At any stage of pregnancy, abortion kills a rapidly developing, genetically-distinct human being.” And, as we say again and again, every human being is unique and made in God’s image and thereby has intrinsic value no matter their size or development. Therefore, every human facing murder and oppression is worth defending. Let’s pray harder and speak louder!
From an article today on CNN.com:
When does learning begin? As I explain in the talk I gave at TED, learning starts much earlier than many of us would have imagined: in the womb.
Here is the key section:
The recognition that learning actually begins before birth leads us to a striking new conception of the fetus, the pregnant woman and the relationship between them.
The fetus, we now know, is not an inert blob, but an active and dynamic creature, responding and adapting as it readies itself for life in the particular world it will soon enter. The pregnant woman is neither a passive incubator nor a source of always-imminent harm to her fetus, but a powerful and often positive influence on her child even before it’s born. And pregnancy is not a nine-month wait for the big event of birth, but a crucial period unto itself — “a staging period for well-being and disease in later life,” as one scientist puts it.
Wow. Not only is this author assuming everyone is aware of basic facts (the fetus is a baby; a real person) but she is also asserting that this baby is not a passive passenger inside his mother and is instead a student of everything she is exposed to. Please read the article in its entirety.
Don’t give up the fight to keep these children safe.
One of our sidewalk counselors is pregnant and recently shared this amazing ultrasound of her unborn baby with us. Call it what you will, but this “fetus” is sucking its thumb! The counselor told us that they watched her baby on the 4-D ultrasound for 5 minutes or so and kept seeing the little baby reach up to suck its thumb, and then it’d fidget around for a minute but always come back to this serene position.

The amazing thing to me is that this child is only 12 weeks old and only 2-inches long! It is at this stage, between 8 and 13 weeks, that a quarter of all abortions happen to babies. How can this be?
As a side note, this is the exact type of ultrasound that we offer to families outside the Louisville abortion clinic. We want people to see and cherish their unborn babies as much as we rejoice in our own. No matter what the circumstances are that bring people to the point of abortion, this is what’s at stake.
